Maggie Q and veganism

Actress Margaret Denise Quigley known as Maggie Q has been a vegan or as she likes to call her self a plant-based dieter for about twenty years. she tells the story of becoming a like this: “I attended a concert and a PETA Asia employee was tabling outside of the show… We connected, and she sent me information on animal-welfare in the fashion, food, and entertainment industries,” she told Veg News. “It made me sick, but nothing prepared me for the truth of the environmental impact of meat production. I quit cold turkey and never looked back. I didn’t understand how I could have ever claimed to love animals but hadn’t made the choices to protect them.”

Her social media

She uses social media to promote animal welfare. Rather than post pictures of red carpets and workout selfies, Maggie uses her Instagram account to advocate for animal-based nonprofit organizations. With so much amazing work in the animal-welfare world, we knew it was time to talk to the vegan celebrity to discuss her takes of food, culture, and activism.

Her own probiotic product company

she’s a big fan of probiotics, as she says herself :

“I have always struggled with gut health,” Maggie told Thrive magazine. “Whatever brought that on, I couldn’t say, but breaking down foods has been a challenge for me even before I knew what that challenge was.”

That’s why Maggie created supplement brand ActivatedYou with Dr. Edison de Mello.

“I wanted to create a line of probiotics that had everything I was looking for,” she told Thrive. “In my journey to improve my own health, I became extremely passionate about helping others out of the hole I was in.”

Her own vegan chef on the set

Maggie has talked about how it’s difficult to find plant-based food while filming on a set. “I don’t deal with food from production,” she told The Beet. “It’s not real food.”

So, she decided to invest in her own solution. “On Nikita, I worked so many hours and needed so many calories (that) I hired a chef who learned the art of vegan cooking and mastered it! I loved her and I miss getting food from her every two hours! Yes, that’s how often I ate.”

Her morning smoothie:

There’s one thing that rarely changes in her day to day life and that’s her breakfast smoothie;

the smoothie contains: wheat grass , ginger , turmeric and lemon shots. she also tries acai bowls sometime too.

Maggie loves to cook.

“I feed people. I love to cook. If you are around me, I will make you food. It’s what I do…. lol!” she told the Tory Daily blog. In fact, she has a full-on chef’s kitchen so she can whip up all of her fave veggie-packed dishes. It has custom cabinetry, stone counters, and top of-the-line appliances.

Her final tip:

Her final tip for those looking to thrive on a plant-based diet is to consume dark, leafy greens. Her favorite fresh juice is a blend of celery, cucumber, apples, kale, Swiss chard, parsley, and ginger. Crew members tease her about “drinking her lawn,” but she’s completely undeterred—the results of her diet are that good!
